First fall observing night with The Boucherville Astronomy Club

Here we are at the CAABM observing site on a wonderfully chilly night. Alain is here with his 20" Obsession and Denis with his Meade LX200 14".

Phil brought his Sony Alpha A55 DSLR and started shooting Messier 1.

Michel came with me, and Pierre came too...

Alain's 20" gave us a beautiful view of Jupiter and her Galillean moons. Also a couple of Messier galaxies.

When Phil finished up his photos, he turned the scope on to a couple of brilliant red stars. He even turned the scope on to a star in the Constellation of Gemini that contains an Exo-Planet 2.9 times the size of our Jupiter orbiting at the equivalent distance of our sun a little farther than Mars.

11:48pm and Alain's 20" has dewed over beyond thawing out. He will be calling it a night...

I think Michel and I will be heading out too as my feet are starting to cool down now...

A special thank you goes out to the observing member of the Boucherville Astronomy Club for a very interesting and entertaining evening... It was wonderful!!!

First observing night w/ CAABM members

Tonight I am @ the CAABM Boucherville Astronomy Club observing site in Contrecoeur. With Phil and Denis w/ their Meade LX200 14" shooting with Phil's Sony Alpha A55. Alain brought his 20" Obsession, let us see Jupiter and her Galillean moons, and M57 otherwise known as The Ring Nebula.

We also got a beautiful glimpse of Messier 81 a wonderfully bright galaxy in Alain's 20". Phil just finished shooting his flats. We just moved on to the Cigar Galaxy.

Les Capteurs du Temps

Our astronomy club CAABM of Boucherville was impressed by the presentation on the history of Sun Dials by sun dial maker Jean-Serge Dion of Drummondville, Qc. He explained the history of time keeping and how we learned of to track time through antiquity. We learned of to make solar clocks and solar calendars ourselves. Mr. Dion explained it in such a wonderful way that a child could build one. Although I wasn't able to stick around for the whole presentation, I very much enjoyed it...

Apple picking on Mont St. Bruno

This afternoon, Abi wanted to go apple picking. We bought here to Mont St. Bruno. We rode on the little train, and went for a walk on the mountain. There was also a Birding group look out for predatory birds.
